2011 Volvo S60 T6 AWD Review

The Smoking Tire finds the perfect way to relax after a month of filming reality: Tom wants to go fishing, and Matt wants to drive really fast on a windy road. Fortunately, we’ve brought the Volvo S60 which handles both tasks nicely.

Woah, damn your lens almost looked fake haha

  2. By: sargeantmalakian

@ToxicDonut81 I’m pretty sure Matt knows what he’s talking about. You’re just trying to argue because you want to look smart for people you’ll never meet.

  3. By: TheRohBoat

    @Vitaminous You got served!

  4. By: nothing4224

Volvo needs to resurrect the turbo brick! Needs to be shaped like a box, have at least 400 hp, be rear wheel drive and live past 1 million miles.

  5. By: campanozzi55

    @ribarguen1
    1) Twin turbo
    2) Its the ”blowoff” the air of the turbo go out of the engine, i hear it a lot in my xc70 T6

  6. By: AdrianC12345

@FastRedPonyCar Uhh, you should see the C30 following…. Just have a look at C30world.com You’d be surprised.

  7. By: ribarguen1

    I have two questions.
    1) Is the T6 twin turbo or a single turbo?
    2) what is that sound that it makes overtime you change gear? I have a T5 c30 and I have never heard that.

    Thanks

  8. By: AdrianC12345

@campanozzi55 The S60 isn’t twin turboed, it’s only got one.

  9. By: bombinoibrahim

@AdrianC12345 u mean twin scroll turbo

  10. By: bombinoibrahim

@AdrianC12345 off course its twin! there’s a highpressure and a low pressure turbo and if u dont know that how about reading more about cars. also to get u more shocked a buggatti veyron has 4 turbos:)

  11. By: Martinalm91

Hi Love your show! I don’t know if you did mean that Keyless entry, satnav, voicecontrol, parktronic, backup camera, sideview camera all this can you add to your S60. But you maybe meant that this isn’t included in the standard equipment. (exept heatedseats thats in the standard? ) But that’s isn’t it in a ford focus eirher..?

And correction all Volvo S60 with adaptive cruise control has now queue assist!

    Keep on making nice reviews!

@sargeantmalakian Boy, you lack basic understanding of what makes engines perform. Oxygen is the relevant word here, not air. Air is oxygen plus “other stuff”, but you need oxygen to create a powerful explosion which generates power. Of course you get the more oxygen the more air you compress, but in the end the oxygen-richness of the air is decisive. Lots of “thin air” will not give you great power – and that is what the presenter implied. Fail.

    R you with us ?

  14. By: TheSmokingTire

@Vitaminous No it’s not. The G-Forces sustained during acceleration and braking would push your hand naturally the other way. Under braking, your body feels “forward” G’s, and would naturally use that force to press the lever forward to downshift. Under acceleration, as you’re being pressed into the seat, tugging the shifter back to upshift is in line with that G-force.

    @TheSmokingTire
True badass’ have Ford SVT Raptors as their camera trucks. Also, good luck in surgery brah, stay safe.

  16. By: TheSmokingTire

    @clearlooks yes. Camera truck.

  17. By: TheSmokingTire

@dkgardner they are by dillon optics

  18. By: enmetos

Not quite true , keyless , reverse camera , front camera , voice activated controls etc.. are available for this car. Mmmmm didnt do his homework but great review anyway

  19. By: clearlooks

Is that Raptor in the background at the lake yours?

  20. By: lmcneice

Pit this thing against the 2011 Audi S4 and see how it fares, My mom has a 2009 Volvo XC70, its really nice but my dads’ 2010 Audi A4 2.0T premium plus (with a larger turbocharger), overall is so much nicer, & I’d LOVE to see if this was the case with the more performance oriented models.

    bmw 335 any day

  22. By: Stealth333

Finally a good review of this car !

  23. By: volvosweden

Don’t compare FORD to Volvo. it is in different category.

  24. By: pyrotech123456

I love that you can see matts raptor in the end shot

  25. By: moonrider99

Is this Matt’s raptor in the background at the end?

  26. By: kharoofmohshi

Nice review… I’d like to think the ‘weakness’ in the brakes is intentionally made for safety purpose… probably to reduce the chance of violent or sudden spinning or skidding and force the driver to be more apprehensive.

  27. By: ToxicDonut81

@sargeantmalakian … and you’re obviously trying to act dumb. Being able to force more air WHICH IS LESS SATURATED WITH OXYGEN is of absolutely no use if you want to create more power. You might have greater volumetric efficiency, but you don’t get anything out of it. The increase in air sucked in does not make up for the ‘lower quality’ of the air. Duh.

  28. By: Tjspycorp

@Billyclark860 what surgery is he having?

  29. By: ToxicDonut81

Two things: Turbochargers work great at altitude? Really? You know what turbos do, right? They compress air, and push it into the engine. Turbocharged engines rely heavily on oxygen-rich air, and at altitude, you don’t have that. So the opposite is true: turbo’ed engines lose more power at altitudes than normally aspirated ones. Secondly, I’d be careful relating high corner speeds to AWD. 4×4 only gives you good traction in a straight line, it does not necessarily improve lateral grip.

Nice Nice Nice……you got some corners ! Great review, great landscape, great boat……but when will you turn up to a car park (OK OK parking lot ) or a school & pick up the kids or get the shopping…..live a little, do some life. The tyres may smoke, but the cat still needs its kitty litter.Walk into the mart & see what the average Jo or the average Joanne thinks, go on spoil yourself…..sit in the back for once…….and feel the vibe from that rear wheel arch ! But still, a great review.

  31. By: AdrianC12345

@TheSmokingTire But, what you don’t think about is how a posative gear change forward is like posative things are usually forward on in the future. I think it makes more sense then the pulling back of a gear to make a posative gear change.

best s60 review on the internet…. im thinking either one of these or an audi a4 2.0T when my lease runs out next year. i prefer the audi in everyway but its hard to say no to 90 extra horsepower and more interesting styling for around the same money (used)

  33. By: tucsonautodetailing

    Cool video.. I like it!

  34. By: TheSmokingTire

    @fromthe575 Dillon Optics

  35. By: Vitaminous

the whole ‘reversed’ transmission thing is a matter of opinion. It’s a comment that mostly comes from manual fags – what you guys don’t understand is that it’s LOGICAL to push/press up to upshift and down to downshift).

  36. By: IcyViking

@xchobo84x fun you would say that. i smoked one of these in köping close to the volvo gearbox factory with my moms audi a4 2.0t s.line quattro.

  37. By: t3chn0m0

@xchobo84x It can surely beat the 2.0T A4. The S4 is faster than the T6. Overall the T6 is closer to the S4, than the 2.0T towards the T6. Especially above 110 Mph the T6 will be way faster than the 2.0T.

  38. By: sargeantmalakian

@ToxicDonut81 I never said anything about the oxygen content. That’s irrelevant. Turbochargers aren’t made for oxygen; they’re made for AIR. The more air they compress, the more work they do. I’m glad you’re intelligent because there would be no one to say “duh” to stupid people like me.

  39. By: dajudahzlion

What camera is being used to film this review?

  40. By: sargeantmalakian

@ToxicDonut81 You’re clearly ignorant of the subject matter of the argument. It was never implied that the ENGINE works better at altitude. Matt said TURBOCHARGERS work better at altitude. He didn’t mention power or air mixture. You really don’t listen, do you? Maybe you should have payed more attention in your math and science classes in school.

  41. By: sadanjd

man …. all i can say is :
    ” congratulations “ – you WIN..!!
    Owninig this car.

  42. By: FastRedPonyCar

@AdrianC12345 yeah a guy a few houses down from me has a C30 T5. It’s a cool looking little car but not the iconic “volvo” shape. That one actually doesn’t bother me because it’s a totally different style of car. It’s these bland sedans they have that make me sad.

  43. By: 19kristian93

Volvo has stoped making the R modell, they only make R designs!

  44. By: xchobo84x

This guy keeps saying S4, but this car cant beat the standard A4 2.0T let alone an S4.

  45. By: AdrianC12345

@bombinoibrahim Big whoop that the Veyron has 4 turbos. I kinda knew that in 2007 or whenever the hell that quad-beetle came out. The S60 uses a twin screw turbo.

  46. By: sargeantmalakian

@ToxicDonut81 You’re just trying to act smart. Internal combustion engines use negative pressure to draw in air. The measure of this is called volumetric efficiency. At altitude, efficiency decreases because atmospheric pressure is lower. The turbocharger’s job is to increase volumetric efficiency in the engine, which is made even more possible at higher altitude, since it can force more air into the now pressure-deprived cylinders. Therefore, it works better at high altitude.

  47. By: campanozzi55

@AdrianC12345 the s60 T6, is twin turbo yes , the s60 T5 isn’t and he is testing out the T6!

  48. By: Vitaminous

@TheSmokingTire Look, I hear that explanation all the time, and I still DISAGREE with it because I think of it with simple logic, not movement.

The reality of it is actually that I don’t care either way, but the thing that feels logical to me is up for an upshit, down for a downshift. Opposing this is pretty much the equivalent of reversing the axis in a video game, some people like it that way, others don’t. It only matters to people who’ve gotten used to a certain way, thus “manualfags”.

  49. By: AdrianC12345

@ribarguen1 Noooo it’s a single turbo. No Volvo gasoline engine has EVER been twin turboed.

  50. By: FastRedPonyCar

I’m pretty sad with the design language that Volvo has turned to over the last 7~8 years. We’ve owned 4 of the classic boxy volvos and currently still own a pair of the S70′s with the T5 engine.

It’s a timeless design that will always be instantly recognizable and Volvo has abandoned that and slumped into a sea of forgettable mediocre sedans.

These will never have the cult-like following the turbo 4′s, 850R/T5s have.
